Next week will be the final week of our exhibition in Andover – but what a week it promises to be!
Today is the Andover Shilling Fair (which sounds like fun), and the museum, which is normally closed on Sundays, is open today, so that’s an extra day to see the exhibition (if the rest of the attractions don’t hold you too long).
And from Tuesday to Friday, the museum is holding a “Week of Archaeology” (they aren’t open on Mondays). The museum staff and the artists were all delighted at the serendipty of the timing, as our exhibition fits quite nicely with the theme (especially as it includes Brian’s studies of finds from the collection of the West Berkshire Museum).
Andover Museum of the Iron Age

The art in Artikinesis’ new exhibition is a response to prehistoric man’s influence on today’s landscape, and a reflection on our relationship with the distant past. Mysterious stone circles, intriguing barrows, exhilarating hill forts and illuminating finds: the essence of history, of human hopes and fears over the years.

We hope that you enjoy the exhibition and that you find beauty and value in our work.
Exhibiting our multimedia installation We are Forest at Sticks Contemporary in Gosport gave us opportunity to meet many members of the community for chat and exchange of ideas about art. Among our most memorable encounters were with the art students at St Vincent’s College Gosport who met us for a talk about how We are Forest emerged and as a starting point for an exhibition of their own. Artikinesis had the privilege of attending their private view which followed on once we had washed down the gallery walls (see below) ready for their artworks (see below) . See some of what went on and what’s happening at Sticks Contemporary now at https://www.facebook.com/LiveArtLocalCIC/
Thank you to Beth and Ed at Sticks
Amanda, Adeliza and Elinor will all be participating in Open Studios West Berkshire and North Hampshire 2018 from 12 May to 3 June.
Rosemary will be involved in the Isle of Wight Open Studios from 13 to 23 July.
Squeezed in between those two events will be the start of the next Artikinesis exhibition, which will be in Andover. More details will follow…
We Are Forest opened yesterday at Sticks Contemporary in Gosport, and can now be seen in its full multimedia glory.
It consists of our collaborative representation of a forest, painted in black and white directly onto the gallery walls, an atmospheric soundtrack composed for the show by the very talented Tanith Lawrey, and a video featuring drawings and colour effects that is projected onto the wall and ceiling. Our sketchbooks and other preparatory material are available to view and there is a selection of related work that can be purchased.
The exhibition is free to view.
Sticks Contemporary is located in Gosport Shopping Precinct, just off the High Street.
A number of events will be held at the gallery during the Artikinesis exhibition:
Our installation of We Are Forest has been interrupted by Storm Emma, who has brought sub-zero temperatures and high winds to North Hampshire. With icy conditions and snow drifts piling up on the roads, we have been unable to travel down to Gosport to finish what we started earlier in the week.
Unfortunately, this means that the preview on Saturday has had to be cancelled, but we still hope to be able to get to Gosport and finish the painting before Wednesday (7 March), when the gallery reopens and the exhibition is due to start.
I have been using a piece of hardboard as a trial “wall” for We Are Forest, testing the paint system over a base coat of emulsion, and trying out some ideas for the finished piece.
